Research projects

SIA “Medon” and SIA “ForteMed” are carrying out a research project under investment 2.2.1.3.i. “Support for the introduction of new products and services in business” of reform and investment direction 2.2. “Digital transformation and innovation of companies” of Latvia's Recovery and Resilience Facility plan.

To develop an innovative AI solution — the “Doctor's virtual assistant” — that automates and structures the processing of medical data and the preparation of documentation: it analyses free-form input and converts it into a regulatory-compliant form, and integrates with existing systems, including “E-veselība”. The tool will be applicable and scalable in family doctors' practices as well as in the outpatient and inpatient sectors.

Once the solution is introduced: substantially less time spent preparing documentation, a lower risk of errors, reduced emotional strain on doctors, clearer and higher-quality doctor–patient communication, better quality of care and more efficient use of public resources.

SIA “Medon” (lead), SIA “ForteMed”.

• Study of functional and technical requirements — analysis of literature, the regulatory environment and technologies; identification of doctors' needs; assessment of solutions abroad (Nuance DAX, Suki, Abridge, DeepScribe); analysis of the medical documentation forms (U27, U88). Result: a set of requirements for the “Doctor's virtual assistant”.
• Development of the initial AI operating concept — analysis of LLM models, assessment of architectures (local / cloud-based / hybrid), the RAG approach, a conceptual AI operating model. Result: the project's IT architecture with AI involvement defined.
• Study of healthcare institution information systems — research into the systems used in Latvia (SmartMedical, E-veselība, Ārsta Birojs, Medius), API integration options, authentication and security requirements. Result: the product's IT documentation and development plan.

Technical development of the digital solution is under way.

SIA “Longenesis”, SIA “Medon” and AS “Sistēmu Inovācijas” are carrying out a research project under investment 2.2.1.3.i. “Support for the introduction of new products and services in business” of reform and investment direction 2.2. “Digital transformation and innovation of companies” of Latvia's Recovery and Resilience Facility plan.

To develop a modular digital platform for conducting clinical observations and research in cardiology — with easily configurable study design, patient engagement and analysis of the data obtained. The solution is being evaluated in a real operating environment.

SIA “Longenesis” (lead), SIA “Medon”, AS “Sistēmu Inovācijas”.

• Development of the modular platform prototype and its integration with the Medon telemedicine platform (study design calculations in the Longenesis Engage environment, design preparation and management modules).
• Validation of the platform for study design calculations — internal testing with medical statistics specialists (sample size, power, randomisation).
• Validation of analytical methods (stage II) — analysis of international guidelines and research instruments; the platform's field trial prepared (clinical observation design, inclusion/exclusion criteria, sample size).

The platform developed is being trialled in a real operating environment.

SIA “Medon” is carrying out a research project of SIA “Farmācijas, biomedicīnas un medicīnas tehnoloģiju Kompetences centrs” under investment 2.2.1.3.i. “Support for the introduction of new products and services in business” of reform and investment direction 2.2. “Digital transformation and innovation of companies” of Latvia's Recovery and Resilience Facility plan.

To address the administrative overload of family doctors caused by unstructured communication with patients in messaging apps. A secure asynchronous communication platform is being developed in which patients submit administrative and medical requests in a structured way, authenticate securely and, where necessary, pay for the service. A task management panel for doctors provides a clear workflow, reducing manual work.

Legally correct and higher-quality doctor–patient communication; convenient payments; structuring and protection of patient data; better quality of care and more efficient use of resources. The solution will be scalable and ready for roll-out in family doctors' practices.

SIA “Medon” (independently).

• Study of functional and technical requirements — semi-structured interviews with family doctors and patients, research into existing communication workflows, identification of the critical pain points, competitor analysis. Result: users' business and technical requirements defined.
• System design and technology research — database schema design and validation, selection of the technology stack (backend, frontend, cloud services), high-fidelity UI/UX prototypes and their iterative validation in a laboratory environment. Result: a finalised database schema, validated UI/UX prototypes and a technical specification for the development phase.

SIA “Medon”, in cooperation with SIA “Longenesis”, is carrying out a research project within the competence centres framework of investment 5.1.1.2.i. “Support instrument for the development of innovation clusters” of reform 5.1.1.r. “Innovation governance and motivation for private R&D investment” of reform and investment direction 5.1.r. “Increasing productivity through greater R&D investment” of Latvia's Recovery and Resilience Facility plan.

To develop a telemedicine solution for the personalised assessment and monitoring of patients' cardiovascular disease risk factors.

A digital module for identifying cardiovascular disease risks and providing personalised monitoring was developed. The solution not only identifies disease risks but also gives the patient personalised recommendations for reducing/controlling the relevant risk factor, thereby improving patient adherence and promoting disease prevention.

• Research into big data principles and analytical methods.
• Development of the solution's software algorithm.
• Development and validation of the user interfaces — a personalised approach to monitoring change over time.
