As a venereologist, he diagnoses and treats sexually transmitted infections, as well as diseases transmitted by contact with the skin and mucous membranes of an infected person.

The competence of a venereologist is to diagnose and treat:

• genital herpes
• Urogenital chlamydia
• Gonorrhoea
• Trichomoniasis
• Ureaplasmosis
• Mycoplasmosis
• Fungal infections
• Syphilis

When to see a venereologist:

• Specific discharge with or without unpleasant odour from the genitals;
• Sore discharge with no symptoms or no discharge with no symptoms or no discharge with no symptoms;
• Eedema, redness, erosions of the genitals;
• Painful and frequent urination;
• New growths on or around the genitals (papillomas, candiliomas, vesicles);
• Unprotected unsafe sex with a casual partner.
